Q: How do I access Augmented Reality (AR) view?
A: AR view is only available to iPhone 3GS users. To activate it, hold the iPhone like you are about to take a landscape picture, with the home button on the right. AR view should then activate.
Q: How do I use my username from Facebook or Twitter?
A: Log into Facebook or Twitter in User Settings, and then import the corresponding account.
Q: How do I send GeoNote to my Facebook or Twitter accounts?
A: Log into Facebook or Twitter in User Settings, then in message composition screen touch the corresponding icon to enable Facebook or Twitter updates.
Q: Why can’t I see the geonotes I have left?
A: GeoNote shows the nearest 16 geonotes, and if your own notes is not amongst those, it will not be shown. To see yours, touch the “See More” button to get more geonotes.
Alternatively, set filter to “Mine Only”.
Q: How do I only see geonotes by certain people?
A: Add those people as your friends! You can do this by touching their username or if you know their username, add them via the friends screen.
Q: Will people know exactly where I left a GeoNote?
A: Yes. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of location based notes. If you don’t want people to know where you are, don’t leave a GeoNote!
Q: Why does it take so long for GeoNote to get my location?
A: This is actually something to do with what is called “time to first fix”, which is basically how long it takes for the GPS module to calculate your position. You can read more about it on wikipedia.
Depending on how recently the GPS module was used, this time varies. This is in turn influences how long GeoNote takes to get an adequate fix on your location.
GeoNote 1.0 will wait for no more than 5 seconds for an more accurate fix, while GeoNote 1.1 will wait for no more than 3 seconds. This is because testing shows the extra 2 seconds doesn’t yield any appreciable benefit.
Q: I am getting errors! What is going on?!
A: Most likely, this is due to me playing with the server end of things and causing service disruptions :-) I am only a student so my income is fairly low – I can’t afford another server where I can test things, so I tend to do them live.
If GeoNote becomes self sustaining, then I can get another server to do my testing on :-)
Q: What is this secretID business?
A: The secretID is a way to verify you own a GeoNote username. If for whatever reason you need to contact me and prove to me you are really the person behind Foobar12 (for example), then you would supply me with the secretID for Foobar12.
Q: I copied my secretID to another device, but now it just says “Duplicate identity”. What is going on?
A: Each secretID can only be used on one device. If you want to “port” your identity to another device, drop me an email with the subject of “Identity reset” and in the body include your secretID and your username.
Love the POTENTIAL of this app. I work for a large digital media/web design creative comp and can think of loads of clients who would benefit from this type of app. Few things though. You MUST put the alias feature in ASAP or people will stop using it and quickly. Nowadays we want to create/edit and modify content and we want to personalise it, putting your name on the notes is essential, otherwise really it’s pointless. It would be like putting a random name on facebook with no picture, who would care? Looking forward to using it more, happy to test for u if you want. Ryan
